In the course of the last day, aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the Syrian Arab Republic have performed 16 combat sorties engaging 57 objects of terrorists’ infrastructure.

Because of bad weather conditions and in order to avoid risks for civilians, the Russian aviation carried out combat tasks only in the Latakia and Deir ez-Zor provinces.

Near Jebel al-Akrad (Latakia province), the Russian aircraft made 4 strikes against disjoined groups of militants, who were retreating under pressure of the Syrian governmental troops and patriotic opposition forces.

Near Hatla (Deir ez-Zor province), Russian Su-34 bomber performed a strike on a workshop, which was used by militants for fitting vehicles with explosive devices. The information about the workshop was received from the Syrian opposition representatives. The bomb strike caused elimination of the terrorists’ workshop with all its contents.

Near Meshia (Deir ez-Zor province), Su-34 bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces performed a strike on field artillery position of militants. The objective monitoring data confirmed elimination of 3 artillery guns.

Near Bgelia (Deir ez-Zor province), the Russian aviation carried out bomb strikes against militant’s missile artillery and POL depot. The objective monitoring data registered destruction of 2 rocket launching systems and detonation of the fuel, which had been stored in the depot.

Near Mreyah (Deir ez-Zor province), Russian aircraft carried out a strike on the ISIS field camp. The direct hits resulted in destruction of the command post and barracks with all their contents.

The Russian Armed Forces continue performing the humanitarian operation on providing assistance to civilians in regions of the Syrian Arab Republic, which had been blocked by terrorists.

Since January 15, transport aircraft of the Syrian Air Force has projected 50 tons of cargos with food products and articles of first necessity by the Russian P-7 parachute platforms.

At present time, the Russian party in cooperation with the Syrian forces is preparing another batch of humanitarian cargos for transporting to blocked Deir ez-Zor.

In the course of the last three days, January 22-24, aircraft of the Russian aviation group in the Syrian Arab Republic performed 169 combat sorties engaging 484 objects of terrorists’ infrastructure.

In order to support the large-scale offensive of the Syrian army and units of the patriotic opposition, the Russian Aerospace Forces have been performing massive airstrikes on terrorists’ objects in Syria since January 22. Pilots are performing 70-100 sorties daily.

Supported by the Russian aviation, Syrian forces achieved significant success in the course of the offensive near Northern Latakia. Just in the course of last 24 hours, the troops have liberated from terrorists more than 92 square kilometers, 28 towns and villages including Rabia, strategically important point for further operations.

Having lost the initiative in Western Syria, leadership of the “Islamic State” made decision to concentrate main efforts on capturing Deir ez-Zor, which has been under terrorists’ siege for long.

Therefore, in accordance to representatives of the Syrian patriotic opposition and Informational Centre in Baghdad, the ISIS pulled up to 2,000 militants with armored hardware and vehicles with large-caliber machine guns to the assigned area last week.

Crews of Tu-22M3 long-range bombers performed 18 combat sorties from the territory of the Russian Federation in order to engage manpower and hardware of the ISIS near Deir ez-Zor on January 22-24. Flight range reached more than 2,000 kilometers.

On Saturday morning in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched their first offensive inside the provincial capital this year, targeting the Al-Rashidiyah and Al-Haweeqa districts that are controlled by the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard and the 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division. ISIS began their assault along the Cinema Fouad Street inside the Al-Rashidiyah District, where they were confronted by a well-prepared contingent from the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade. This battle along Cinema Fouad Street would last for over 3 hours and end in ISIS’ mass retreat from the Al-Rashidiyah District to the nearby Sheikh Yasseen District after sustaining a high death toll during this failed attack. In conjunction with their assault on the Al-Rashidiyah District, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham launched a large-scale assault on the northern quarter of the Al-Haweeqa District in order to seize the remaining territory of this strategic area on the western bank of the Euphrates River. However, once again, the ISIS terrorists were delivered a lethal blow by the Syrian Armed Forces, resulting in the former’s retreat to the southern sector of Al-Haweeqa. According to a military source from the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade, 63 ISIS terrorists were killed and another 84 were wounded (unconfirmed by the Syrian Arab Army’s Central Command) during this failed offensive on Saturday. Among the ISIS terrorists killed on Saturday was a Belgian terrorist that was identified as “Abu ‘Umar Al-Beljiki” – he was killed alongside 7 Pakistanis, 4 Chechens, and 2 Jordanians in Al-Haweeqa and Al-Rashidiyah.
